Bridging psychology and public life through decades of research, group facilitation, and scholarship in psychocultural development
About Peter T. Dunlap: A Life at the Integration Point
Rooted in Psychology, Committed to Public Life
Peter T. Dunlap, Ph.D., is a psychologist and licensed Systems-Centered® Training practitioner who explores the integration of individual psychological development and small group exploration with sociopolitical transformation. His work draws on decades of experience convening groups for community leaders, activists, and engaged citizens, informed by developmental psychology, group theory, and community activism.
His career path was shaped by his upbringing in a politically engaged California family. His father served as a liberal California senator in a family with political roots dating to California’s founding, while his psychologically minded mother pursued psychotherapy for herself and the family. This background sparked his early interest in connecting personal growth with civic engagement.
Peter holds a doctorate from Meridian University and has published extensively on psychocultural development, including the book Awakening Our Faith in the Future: The Advent of Psychological Liberalism (Routledge, 2008) and numerous articles exploring how individuals and communities can navigate developmental transitions. His current research, conducted in collaboration with Camille Jarmie, Ph.D., focuses on developing and refining the theory and practice of Belonging, Becoming, and Engaging groups.
Today, his work helps individuals and communities integrate personal healing with collective justice, building capacity for the moral attention our most urgent social challenges demand.
